Attitudes are contagious.
We can define it as simple, to behave intelligently when one is emotional, is known as Emotional Intelligence.
Emotional intelligence does not mean being soft, but rather being intelligent enough to handle emotion very smartly empathize with others, overcome challenges, and defuse conflict intelligently.
Some people are born with high emotional intelligence.
Leaders with high emotional intelligence leave us feeling better and more motivated at the end of an encounter, creating a safe environment for employee well-being to flourish. emotionally intelligent leadership to create a safe, healthy work environment that supports employee well-being, but the good news is these are skills leaders can learn.
The fact is many of the time emotion controls us rather we control emotions.
The most common emotions are sadness, happiness, jealousy, fear, hate, guilt, etc.
In our professional life emotional intelligence plays a very important role in the fate of relationship management which results into-
1. Employee retention
2. Employee Motivation
3. Self-management
4. Managing others
Emotional intelligence is also known as Emotional Quotient(EQ).
EQ drives in a very impactful way our internal world as well as our response to the external world.
There are 5 types of EQ.
a. Interpersonal EQ- Empathy, Social responsibility, and interpersonal relationship.
b. Intrapersonal EQ- Self-Esteem, Emotional awareness, assertiveness, independence, self-actualization
c. Stress Management EQ- Stress Tolerance & Impulse Control
d. Adaptability EQ- Flexibility and Problem-Solving Capability
e. General Mood EQ- Optimism and happiness
At the same time in the absence of EQ life can lead to Chaos.
To have the EQ or EI few abilities are necessary, they are mainly.
1. Self-awareness — knowing self, being aware of our physical, mental, and spiritual activities.
2. Emotional maturity- aware of inner-self, maturity to face all the dimensions of life without any judgment.
3. Self-motivation- taking responsibility for own actions and emotions.
4. Empathetic understanding- Considering other’s point of view.
5. Quality Communication — listening with undivided attention to understand fully before wanting to be understood.
EQ is a vital skill that is critical in our day-to-day in every area of our lives-
Methodologies to develop and practice EQ-
1. Being more self-aware. Being aware of own emotions and emotional responses to those around.
2. Recognize how others feel (360-degree feedback).
3. Practice active listening with undivided attention.
4. Communicate clearly with full clarity.
5. Stay positive in any situation.
6. Empathize to the world.
7. Be open-minded without any preoccupied mindset.
8. Listen actively to feedback.
9. Staying calm in Pressure
Dr. Bradley explains, “EQ is about the ability to monitor our emotions, our feelings, and those of others to help guide our behaviors at work. Research has shown that emotional intelligence is twice as important as technical skills or IQ when it comes to effectiveness at work.”
People who have high emotional intelligence have well-managed people skills that build better relationships and get along with people across the workplace.
