Human Quotient- Flavours of Life
“We all have some ideological quotient in ourselves. And I think it does guide who we are” — David Bezmozgis
What is Quotient?
The Quotient is the measure of assessing an individual’s ability to handle or respond to various situations or challenges in life.
What is the human Quotient?
The Human Quotient (HQ) is a supreme model with three intermingled components, cognitive, behavioral, and interpersonal.
When individuals are more proactive than reactive in each of these domains, they place themselves for success as novel and effective leaders.
Cognitive- It is related to thinking, logic, reasoning & memory. This dimension of the HQ develops with the help of Proactive thinking by mindful self-awareness, which eventually helps create self-awareness. To have strategic reason and to become a visionary and forward-thinking leader proactive thinking is a vital part to reach the cognitive stage.
Behavioural- This dimension of HQ improves when any individual reduces the reactivity toward stressful situations either in the workplace, family, or social life. which helps to prevent creating a toxic environment. This HQ can be developed by Meditation.
Interpersonal- This dimension of HQ involves the effortful development of relationships with broad ranges in the Workplace, society & Community with an empathetic, sharing & caring nature.
Types of Human Quotient-
1. Intelligence Quotient(IQ)
2. Emotional Quotient(EQ)
3. Social Quotient and Spiritual Quotient(SQ)
4. Adversity Quotient(AQ)
1. Intelligence Quotient(IQ)- IQ is the capacity to abstract design and establish class, definition, and hierarchy of essential meaning and operation. It is related to the Mind, which is characterized to think rationally, talking purposefully, acting meaningfully, deal with the situation very effectively, this is the measure of the level of command, we need IQ to solve maths, memorize things and recall lessons, this indicates the intellectual level.
2. Emotional Quotient(EQ)- EQ deals with the emotions of people, not machines. it is empathy for others. It means while taking any decision consider other’s situation or impact before any conclusion. Emotional intelligence involves a person’s ability to understand what another person is feeling. It represents the ability to interpret and predict emotional responses and the ability to respond appropriately. Understanding how certain words, actions, or images may impact how other people feel is crucial for influencing and persuading others. This is the measure of our capability to maintain peaceful relations with others, be responsible, be honest, respect boundaries, and be humble, genuine, and considerate. The leader who has more EQ than IQ proves himself a better leader.
3. Social Quotient and Spiritual Quotient(SQ)- This is the measure of the ability to build a network of friends and maintain it over a long period of time. People who have higher EQ and SQ tend to go further in life than those with a high IQ but low EQ & SQ.
Most schools capitalize on improving IQ levels while EQ and SQ are played down. A man of high IQ can end up being employed by a man of high EQ & SQ even though he has an average IQ.
The people who have good SQ, have mainly eight characteristics-
a. Flexibility to change, they rapidly adapt to the changes and survive in any situation.
b. They are very much Self-aware, they know very much, what they are ? where are they? what did they suppose to do? What do they need to talk about to people around them? what are they looking at? Absolute awareness never does a mistake.
c. Ability to face the sufferings of life (personal, professional & social), In life always we have challenges and ups and down in life, which are unavoidable but the person with good SQ faces all the challenges and converts those challenges into opportunities.
d. Ability to be inspired by vision, they observe something and are inspired by it, they are visionary.
e. Ability to see the connection in diagonally opposite things also, I.e. ability to resolve the issue in any part of life.
f. An ability to cause harm as minimally as possible to the people and surroundings. How can I be helpful?
g. Have the ability to ask a few fundamental questions by using why, what, where, when, who, and how? before taking any action.
h. Ability to think and act differently from the conventional way.
EQ represents the character, while SQ represents the charisma of any human being. People with good SQ grow and they allow to grow surroundings.
4. Now the 4th one is a new paradigm, the adversity Quotient (AQ) — the measure of the ability to go through a rough patch in life and come out of it without losing the mind. When faced with troubles, AQ determines who will give up, who will abandon their family, and who will consider suicide. It is the individual capability to react or handle the situation, the more we are self-aware, mindful, calm, and composed we can handle the situation very effectively and productively.
To reach up to that state of mindfulness one must practice physical and mental workouts to balance our physical, mental, and spiritual health.
Our Mind is a Powerhouse, whatever we think Consciously, reflects in the way we act Subconsciously.
It is our choice now to decide which quotient we chose to opt for.
So, let us act accordingly to achieve our desired goals in life.
A great Leader always rules with IQ and leads with EQ and SQ.
Disclaimer — I am not an expert in this subject, However, whatever I have understood so far after going through the relevant Books and different articles on different digital platforms and I thought let me share my experience in a very simpler way with my folks, that is the reason I have written this article.
